Jim Wodark Exhibition

Jim Wodark is, at heart a Colorado boy living in Souther California who quite simply loves to paint America’s Mountain and Desert West. Although his paintings are deeply rooted in the classic American western landscape genre, with sweeping mountains and forests, in many of his pieces he brings that grandeur down to a very human scale with the authentic presence of his always humble cowboys and their trusty steeds and trail worn cattle.

Wodark’s images are familiar, accessible to people who haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing the West first hand. And for those of us who live in it already, there is a déjà vu quality to his work that is never prosaic.

Looking at one of his paintings, one has the sense that Jim, a humble guy himself, is sitting on a stump somewhere inside the frame, with his canvas and brushes, painting a path for us into the narrative to have a look around.
