Tracy Schwartz – From the Forest

“From the Forest is a body of work that grew from my experience tent camping in and around Crested Butte from May through November of 2015. While I’ve always enjoyed being outdoors, this was the first time I did a consistent amount of camping by myself. No partner. No friend. No dog. Just me and the sun beaming across the mountaintops to greet my eyes each morning, with the milky way to tuck me into my sleeping bag each night.

It was in these daily moments of solitude that nature’s interactions became more meaningful. Wildlife encounters of all kinds would stop me in my tracks, some frightening, some tender and sweet, some comical. Whether I was sitting in a field of wildflowers with a herd of mule deer or looking into the eyes of a fox with the harvest moonrise framing its delicate features, each of the animals I’ve chosen to draw for this show is something that I’ve connected to in the mountains at one time or another, in one way or another. It is my hope that through these drawings, my connections with wildlife can be felt by someone else.”  -Tracy
