William Henry Holmes was known for his exquisitely accurate topographical sketches. In this example, Holmes uses four pages to create a panoramic image looking north from the top of Italian Mountain depicting the mountains west of Teocalli to mountains east of Castle. Notice the dotted line that suggests the USGS survey’s route and also documenting their camp marked as “sta 37”.
