When many think of artists, a certain stereotype comes to mind of a brooding, flaky, aloof type who is often thought of being “out there”. This couldn’t be further from the truth when speaking of Jim Wodark. Watching him get ready for his upcoming one-man show “High Country Grandeur” on July 2nd, one figures out quickly he isn’t the type to, as he put it, “study his belly button a lot” or “ponder the new moon”. In fact, Jim is just a fun, laid back sort of fellow whose artwork truly evokes the spirit and majesty of the High Rockies. Adding those finishing touches at Oh Be Joyful Gallery in Telluride this past weekend, he greeted everyone who came in with a joke and a smile. Engaging and approachable, he spoke with patrons and other artists about his art, sharing his techniques and his artistic choices of color and style. He asked a couple of ladies on one painting whether he should “make it a little more jumpy”. Jumpy we wondered? “Oh that is a specialized artist’s term, really only artists understand”, he joked and then his phone rang. “Yes, Mr. President”, he answered and we all laughed. It was a great Sunday, full of beautiful new pieces that really do illustrate the beauty of Telluride and full of many laughs. Come see for yourself! Join us for Jim’s opening “High Country Grandeur” on July 2nd, at Oh-Be-Joyful Gallery during Telluride Artwalk.
