"This formation is out in Utah, off of I-70. I love the way it flows. I really enjoyed painting it in this longe horizontal to convey the breadth of the range."
Opening Friday, July 3
Jim will be painting in the gallery from 2-5pm
Jim Wodark's paintings of the American West transform the landscape into an atmospheric stage where history, memory, and imagination converge. Contemplative Native figures and solitary horsemen move through moonlit landscapes, glowing canyon walls, and quiet expanses of open country. Each composition is carefully designed and playfully executed. The result is a body of work that feels timeless. Wodark honors the people, stories, and landscapes that continue to define the spirit of the West.
"I met this model and was blown away by his look. He is 6’7”! Just love the presence I got in this painting. I dreamt up the whole thing except his face. Tried to bring out his essence."
"I have been exploring abstraction mixed with realism. I like the story of the buffalo in the past as symbols and then them emerging into the present. Still alive!"
"I loved the way the aspen flowed down the mountain side to the pasture. So much beautiful color, took my breath away!"
"I love to paint the color of night. I look at daytime settings and pretend the sunlight is moonlight. It’s always an interesting to ask myself what the colors would be under a full moon. I like the story that this one has. Whose fire is it and where are they?"
"I love the feeling of this piece. I wanted to convey the beauty of the fall without it being a sunny day. So many times it’s overcast or raining and the color of everything just pops."
